CHASE CANDY COMPANY BREAKS GROUND

ON NEW PRODUCTION FACILITY

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Aug. 19, 2004 – Today, the Chase Candy Company, which started operations in St. Joseph, Mo. in 1876, marked a new era in its history as the maker of the famed Cherry Mash broke ground on a new production facility.

More than 50 employees, dignitaries and residents attended the ceremony at Mitchell Woods Business Park. Company President Barry Yantis and his son Vice President Brett Yantis were joined by long-time employees Larry Carr and Janet Moore as they turned the first dirt signaling the start of construction.

Site work will start immediately on the new 20,000-square-foot building which will house the corporate offices and production operations for the company. Construction is scheduled for completion in winter 2005 and Chase anticipates starting candy production in March 2005.

The new facility will produce increased efficiencies for the company and the numerous products they produce which include the best selling cherry candy in the United States Cherry Mash, peanut brittle, peanut squares, peco flake, coconut bon bons, chocolate and vanilla haystack and Hawaiian haystacks.

“This is a very exciting day for the Chase Candy Company,” said company President Barry Yantis. “By designing our own production facility, we believe we’ll be more efficient and provide and even higher quality of service to our customers. The construction schedule was developed with our customer demand in mind and we believe there won’t be any interruption in filling important orders this spring as we move our operations.”

The new building will replace the company’s current facility where the company has operated for the last 40 years. This is the company’s third major production facility built in St. Joseph over the years.

Founded in 1876 by Dr. George Washington Chase, the Chase Candy Company is one of the oldest operating candy companies in the United States. Over the years, the company has had production facilities in St. Louis, Mo., San Jose, Calif. and Chicago, Ill., following the acquisition of Bunte Brothers Candy Company.
